How do I run a sale with struck-through prices?
Set a compare-at price on a product, then give the sale an end date so it does not become a permanent second price.
Step by step
- Open the product and, on the variant, click "+ Compare-at price, per-unit shipping".
- Enter a "Compare-at price" higher than the selling price and save the product. The store now shows the old price struck through beside the new one.
- Open Marketing → Discounts and sales → Struck-through prices.
- Find the product and pick a date in "Ends on". It saves as soon as you pick it.
This screen lists every struck-through price on the store, the discount it gives and when it ends. A sale whose date has passed disappears from the store by itself.
- Tabs: "All", "No end date", "Ending this week", "Ended" and "No sale".
- "Set for all" gives every sale with no end date the same end date in one step.
- Tick several rows to "Set an end date" or "Remove the date" for them together.
- "Remove the struck-through price" ends the sale straight away. The regular price stays.
Tip A struck-through price that never ends is not a sale. It is a second price, and shoppers notice. Give every sale an end date.
Questions
What is the difference between this and a discount code?
A struck-through price shows on the product for everyone. A discount code applies only when a shopper enters it at checkout. See discount codes.
