How do I connect my own domain?
Type your domain, add two DNS records at the place you bought it, and Waise connects it and issues the security certificate.
Step by step
- Open Settings, then Domain and business mail.
- Under Store address, type your domain (for example my-shop.com) and press Connect. If you type a bare domain, Waise connects the www version.
- Under Where did you buy the domain? choose GoDaddy, Namecheap, Cloudflare, Squarespace (formerly Google Domains), Wix, Porkbun or Other. Waise then shows numbered steps for that site, with your own values ready to copy.
- At your registrar, add the CNAME record shown: the name is the first part of your address (for example www) and the value is the target Waise gives you.
- Add the TXT record too. It proves the address is yours, and without it the address will not connect to your store, even if the CNAME is right.
- Come back to Waise. It checks by itself every few seconds while the page is open; you can also press Check now. Wait until the status says Active.
- Optional: at your registrar, forward the bare domain (without www) to the www address, so people who type it without www reach your store too.
What the statuses mean
- Waiting for ownership proof: Waise is waiting for your TXT record.
- Waiting for the pointer: the record has to spread across the internet. This takes from a few minutes to a few hours, and Waise keeps checking by itself.
- Issuing a security certificate: the pointer is correct and the lock in the browser is being issued, usually within a few minutes.
- Active: the address works, with a security certificate. It becomes your Main address.
When the address goes live, the store moves to it by itself. It takes a few seconds.
Tip You can close the screen while you wait. The check keeps running.
If it doesn’t go live
- In the name field write only the first part (for example www), without your domain after it, and paste the value without spaces.
- If your registrar already has another record with the same name (A or CNAME), delete it. Two can’t live together.
- On Cloudflare, the cloud next to the record must be grey (DNS only). An orange cloud stops the address from connecting.
- Read the What we found box on the address. It says what Waise saw and what to fix, and Check again re-runs the check.
- If the status says Failed, disconnect the address and connect it again, or write to help@waise.app.
Note Pressing Disconnect on an address removes it from your store. Do it only if you mean to.
Questions
Why is there a TXT record as well as a CNAME?
Pointing a name at Waise doesn’t prove which store may use it. The TXT record proves you own the domain, so nobody else can connect your address to their store.
How long does it take?
Records can take from a few minutes up to an hour or a bit more to spread. Waise checks by itself while you wait.
