Why does checkout ask for details instead of payment?
Your store is in preview mode: no working payment is connected yet. Shoppers can leave their details, and you finish the order with them.
If a shopper sees "This store isn't taking online payments yet. Leave your details and we'll get back to you to complete your order.", your store is in preview mode. The store is open and the cart works, but checkout cannot take money, so it collects the shopper's name, phone and basket as a request instead.
Why it happens
- No payment provider is connected yet, or it is connected in test mode only.
- You skipped business details or shipping in the wizard, and the store still lacks a legal name and address or an active shipping method.
- A payment provider that was working has stopped working.
- Waise billing is on for your store and you have not saved a card with Waise yet.
How to leave preview mode
- Open Today → What to improve → Launch readiness. A banner at the top says Preview mode and shows what is missing.
- Choose Connect a terminal and connect payments. See Connect payments.
- Fill in whatever else the checklist lists: business details and a shipping method.
The requests that shoppers left wait in your inbox, under Sales → Messages. Call or write to them and finish the sale yourself, for example with a payment link from the order page.
