How do I ship an order and add tracking?

Open the order and choose Mark as shipped, or use Shipping and tracking to add a tracking number or ship part of the order. The customer gets an email.

Step by step

  1. Open Sales → Orders. The Ready to ship tab lists paid orders that have not gone out.
  2. Click an order to open it. Check the items and the shipping address.
  3. Pack the order. To print a label, open More → Print label. See Shipping labels.
  4. In the Shipping and tracking card, type the Tracking number and choose a Carrier. Both are optional.
  5. Choose Ship everything. To send only some items, change the quantities and choose Ship the selected items. You can send the rest later as another package.
  6. The customer's shipping email waits 20 seconds. If you made a mistake, choose Undo in that time and the email does not go out.
  7. When the parcel has arrived, choose Mark as arrived.

At the top of a paid order, the main button is Mark as shipped. After that it becomes Mark as arrived. Marking an order as shipped sends the customer an email that the order is on its way. If you enter a tracking number, they get the number in that email.

Several packages, or fixing a number

Many orders at once

In the orders list, tick several orders and choose Mark as shipped from the bar of actions. You can also add a tag or export the selected orders to Excel.

Items that a supplier ships

If an item comes from an outside supplier, the order page says so. Mark it sent only after the supplier gives you a tracking number, because the customer receives that number by email. If you ship for suppliers in batches, see Sales → Shipping → Send to supplier.

Tip With automatic tracking on, the customer also gets short updates as the parcel moves, such as when it is out for delivery. You set it up in Settings → Shipping methods → Courier and tracking.

Questions

Can the customer confirm that the order arrived?

Yes. After you mark an order as arrived, the customer can confirm from their order page. Until then, the order shows Waiting for the customer to confirm.

The order is not in the Ready to ship tab.

Only paid orders are listed there. An unpaid order shows a Payment link button instead. See Abandoned checkouts for shoppers who did not pay.
